 Couples & Trauma, Attachment, and

Relationship- Focused Practice

Whether you're coming as a couple seeking to strengthen your covenant, or as an individual longing to grow in emotional and spiritual maturity, I want to begin with this truth:

Seeking help is not weakness — it is wisdom, humility, and obedience to God’s invitation to healing.

My name is Dr. Carolyn Litteral — lovingly called Dr. L.
And yes… my last name really is pronounced Literal — literally.

I am a Christian relationship and trauma therapist with over 15 years of clinical experience. But more importantly, I am a woman who has been transformed by God’s grace and the tools of science working together.

God restored what trauma tried to steal.
Scripture reshaped my identity.
Neuroscience rewired my patterns.

I believe in healing that honors both the creator of the mind and the science that reveals how He designed it to heal.

That is why my approach integrates faith + evidence-based practice — because God used both to transform my life.

My calling is to walk with those who desire deeper emotional intimacy, spiritual growth, and deep connections in their relationships.

Who I Serve

I work best with:

  • Individuals seeking emotional healing and spiritual maturity

  • Believers healing from trauma, betrayal, or relational pain

  • Couples committed to building a covenant-centered partnership

  • I primarily treat monogamous couples who desire to strengthen their relationship with each other, with God, and with themselves.

This is not a stance rooted in judgment — but in alignment with my training, calling, values, and the model of healing I offer.

I honor and respect people from all walks of life and all relationship structures.
I do not judge, condemn, or shame anyone’s choices or beliefs.
I simply specialize in serving couples who desire a monogamous partnership.

If your relationship has a different structure or belief system, I hold you in dignity — and I will gladly help you find a therapist who aligns with your values and needs if I am not a good fit.

Fit Matters — For You and For Me

Therapy is sacred work. The right therapist matters.

I am intentional about ensuring I am the right fit for you, and that you feel safe, respected, and supported from the very first session.

If we discover that your needs would be better served by a different clinician, I will help connect you with someone who is aligned and equipped for your journey.

Clarity is not exclusion — it is kindness, stewardship, and honesty for all involved.

My Approach: God + Science

I can integrate:

  • Biblical principles

  • Evidence -Based Clinical Care for couples and individuals

  • Faith-aligned sex therapy and sexual intimacy work rooted in safety, holiness, and connection

This is discipleship of the heart + renewal of the mind (Romans 12:2) supported by relational science.

What You Can Expect

  • Warmth, compassion, and zero judgment

  • Respect for your dignity, story, and spiritual journey

  • Grace + accountability

  • Written session summaries & guided practices

  • A therapist committed to honoring God, honoring science, and honoring you

About Me

I believe healing is both holy and human — a sacred partnership between God’s grace and the science of the mind and body He created.

My name is Dr. Carolyn Litteral, though most people lovingly call me Dr. L
(and yes — my last name really is pronounced Literal… literally).

I am a Christian relationship and trauma therapist with over 15 years of experience across nearly every mental health setting. But more than my credentials, what shapes my work most deeply is my own story of redemption and restoration.

I have lived through trauma.

I have used unhealthy coping strategies.

I have chosen relationships that did not honor my worth or God’s design.

And by the grace of God — I healed.

I don’t speak of transformation academically.
I have lived it —
inside my nervous system, inside my relationships, and inside my spirit.

God used Scripture, neuroscience, therapy, and community to renew me and sanctify me. That’s why my approach integrates both faith and evidence-based treatment for individuals who are open to a spiritual approach:

I believe God authored emotion, attachment, intimacy, and the brain — and He equips us with both spiritual tools and psychological ones for healing and growth.

My Faith Journey

I am actively deepening my theological education.
I do not claim to be a pastor or spiritual authority —
I am a fellow follower of Christ, learning, studying, and growing alongside you.

I bring my clinical training, my lived experience, my faith, and my humility.
I am here to stand with you, not above you.

My Heart for This Work:

I do not judge.
I do not shame.
I do not assume.

I simply walk beside those who desire healing, wholeness, emotional wisdom, covenant love, and a life aligned with Christ’s design.

Healing is not a sign of weakness.
It is evidence of courage, wisdom, and obedience to God’s invitation to grow.

If you’re ready to begin, I would be honored to walk this journey with you.
